Student Teaching 

 
Natalie has completed two semesters of student teaching. During the fall of 2015, Natalie interned in a middle and high school dance program at Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts in East Orange, New Jersey. During the fall of 2013, she completed student teaching placements in 3rd and 6th grade inclusive classrooms at Francis Parker School #23 in Rochester, New York. She has also completed several field placements in dance, elementary, and special education settings.

Middle and High School Dance Program
September through December 2015

 

While student teaching at Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts, Natalie had the opportunity to work with young dancers, ages 11-18, backwards planning multiple units, attend daily professional learning community meetings, and develop and implement a Student Growth Objective process. Additional highlights include introducing students to the Language of Dance and motif writing, a method of notating dance, as well as extended their knowledge of Laban Movement Analysis, a 

framework for describing movement. 6th Grade General Education Placement
September through Mid-October 2013

 

During this placement, Natalie designed and implemented an interactive month-long Social Studies unit on pre-history, fostered a community of writers during Writers' Workshop, and worked with a small group of gifted learners to adapt and implement an engageNY Common Core Math module. She additionally engaged in professional development, reflection, collaborative planning, designing and utilizing formative and summative assessments, and communicating with parents.

 3rd Grade Special Education Placement
 Mid-October-December 2013
 

Natalie’s special education placement was in an inclusive classroom with both a special education teacher, her cooperating teacher, and a general education teacher. In this placement, Natalie led two phonics-based intervention groups, monitored student progress, provided instructional modifications and test accommodations, differentiated engageNY Common Core Language Arts lessons for whole class instruction, and collaborated with parents and staff to meet the needs of diverse learners as specified in their Individualized Education Plans.
